Cold Air Intake Systems
A cold air intake system is named such because it draws air in from outside the engine compartment where the air is comparatively cold as compared to the hot air inside the engine compartment.

The most common and most effective design is to use sections of mandrel bent pipe, connected with turbo hose connectors, leading from the throttlebody leading out of the engine compartment to the area behind the bumper or behind the fender, where a cone filter is fitted to the pipe to draw in cool air from outside the engine compartment. The combination of the cooler intake air and the reduction in flow resistance results in significantly higher power improvement than any of the other intake systems discussed here. In addition, the intake system will typically be three or more feet in length, tuning the intake charge and effectively acting as an extension of the intake manifold of the engine, almost as if it were a header for the intake side of the engine, improving low and mid range torque. If all this weren't impressive enough, the added length of the pipe work also encourages something called "laminar air flow effect" whereby the air passing through the pipe is unobstructed and begins to act somewhat more like a liquid than a gas, gaining momentum as it passes down the pipe and resisting anything that would stop its flow, acting with a air ramming effect as it passes through the throttlebody.

Testing by Sport Compact Car and Import Tuner Magazines showed 9-13 HP improvement in engine performance from this type of intake system, with no difference in performance if the hood was open or closed or if the vehicle were moving or not.

Ram Air Intake Systems
Ram air intake systems derive their name from their function of ramming air into the engine using scoops to pressurize air through the intake system and force it through the throttlebody. This is done by constructing a long intake system similar to a cold air intake system, with a scoop to catch air in the grille work or through the hood. The entire system must be sealed air tight with no leaks through drip holes, connections, etc. Anywhere that air pressure is allowed to escape will nullify any ram air affect. Air filtration can be either by placing a cone filter in the air scoop or by sealing the filter in a canister, similar to the PRM filter discussed earlier.

Ram air intake systems take advantage of drawing in cool air from outside the engine compartment, but they do have several serious disadvantages.
The air ramming affect is seen only when the vehicle is moving at highway speed or faster. There is no performance advantage in starting from a standing stop, aside from drawing in cooler air

Displaying two types of voltage, both real and Lowest Voltage (world first) at engine start makes it easy to see battery life and loss in battery performance. This also helps to protect against trouble caused by shortages in voltage to various electronic devices.



Display Method
After the engine has been started, the display will intermittently display the lowest voltage at engine start and the real voltage.
To prevent the battery from dying, the display will turn off after running for one minute.



Judgment Method
With a new battery or near new battery check the lowest voltage at engine start, if the voltage is reduced by a given amount it is quite possible there is a loss in battery performance and the battery should be checked.

What is a Cold pipe?
Cold pipe are liquid side after the thermal Expansion valve
Why need to insulate?
Cold pipe is of 7 -8 degC sitting in the engine bay( typically 50-60 DegC). By insulating the pipe, you minimise heat loss in the
engine bay.

What are the benefits?
You ensure minimise heat loss in the cold pipe meaning more cooling can be used to cool down your cabin

Throttle body coolant bypass

Most cars in Singapore, whether from dealer or PI is running engine coolant through the throttle body in order to warm it up. In it stock condition, most car from japan, korea, thailand are design like this so that the throttle body doesn't get filled with ice due to a mix of cold temps, humidity, and condensation.
This is done because car manufacturers cannot design a car to work for "most" people, they are expected to make cars that work in any condition.

Lucky for Singaporean, our weather is between 20c- 38c, we don't live in subarctic locations  where it is snowing or freezing.

For most of the new car owners out there, the throttle body's purpose is to control the amount of air that goes into the engine. With 180-200F degree coolant running through it, we are essentially heating up the air moments before it goes into the engine. U can test yourself by using ur hand to touch the Throttle body of the car. It is Extremely HOT, unbearable to touch.

Dyno Chart Sample



Attached is a sample of the Dyno Chart showing a 6.3 horsepower and 7.1 ft/lbs torque Increased between having coolant run through the throttle body and bypassing it.

we made the first dyno test after driving the car for approximately 15 minutes so as to give it a more contant reading. we monitored Coolant Temp and Intake Air Temp using scan gauge 2 while making the run. At the beginning of the baseline run, the coolant was at 178F, intake air was at 80F, and the throttle body itself had a surface temperature of 102F. After bypassing, I again brought the car to temperature and repeated the test. This time, the coolant was at 180F, intake air was 80F and the throttle body was at 82F. To make sure the runs were accurate, I set the cruise on the dyno to 70mph in 6th and let the car run for about 6 minutes. After this time, the throttle body had reached 100F. I let the car cool to 185F coolant temp, and 88F intake air temp. Running the car again with these elevated heat readings yielded another .2 horsepower and -.2 ft/lbs torque compared to before heat soaking the engine.

After doing the throttle body bypass we noticed a difference in the throttle responce right away. We have done on both the E-throttle and Cable throttle cars.

From what we have read from Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, Kia, Hyundai, they incorperated this into the throttle body to prevent any kind of freezing of the TB valve in extreme cold conditions by having water from the cooling system run through it at 80 – 100degree C

This heats up the throttle body quite a bit (just try touching the throttle plate after a long drive or idling) and from this devices the incoming air will be warmed up slightly.

You want the intake air going into your intake system as cool as possible. As per stated in the car magazine HOT Stuff, cooler air has more density in turn better combustion per cylinder and in turn higher torque and pick up.


NOTE: If you live in an area where extreme cold conditions exist I would not recommend this procedure.
